The PADI Assistant Instructor Course is already your first step in your PADI Instructor Development career. This new level opens a wide new range of reponsibilities to you.

Beyond the responsibilities and duties you already have as renewed PADI Divemaster,
(and insured, where applicable) PADI Assistant Instructors (certified/upgraded since 1995) are authorized to:

1. Present the academic elaboration for any PADI Diver course under the
< indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor. The PADI Instructor must
< personally assess student knowledge development (i.e. review Knowledge
< Reviews, administer and review Quizzes and Final Exams.)

2. During confined water dives, present initial skills training under the
< direct supervision of a PADI Instructor.

3.Conduct open water surface skill evaluations during Open Water Diver
< course training dives under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor.

4. Teach and certify PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Divers
< under the direction of a PADI Instructor. A Teaching Status PADI
< Instructor must be available for consultation during the course, although
< not necessarily present during training sessions. The instructor must
< cosign the student diver log books and Training Record sheets after
< verifying that all performance requirements are met.
< NOTE: The instructor who cosigns the log book may certify the diver as an Adventure
< Diver or Advanced Open Water Diver if the Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive is the final
< dive needed for that certification.

5. Independently teach the Project AWARE (nondiving) Specialty course.

6. Independently teach the AWARE - Coral Reef Conservation (nondiving)
< Specialty course.

< environment.
