Preparing
for your Instructor Development Course
There
are a couple of things you should prepare in advance before
your IDC starts.
You need to
go through all the knowledge review chapters (independent
study) of your candidate workbook.
To have them filled out is one of the prerequisites for
starting the IDC program. To find those answers read the
named articles in your "Best of the Undersea Journal"
and your PADI Instructor Manual.
A
good way to fresh up your theoretical knowledge is to work
through the PADI Diving Knowledge Workbook and Encyclopedia.
If you have the possibility, write the 1999 Divemaster Final
Exam to see whether there is a lack of knowledge in a certain
topic.

If
you arrive at your IDC location a few days in advanced or
have the possibility somewhere else to join a PADI Instructor
during an Open Water Course, this is another good way to
get prepared.
Jump in a pool, a lake or the sea with a buddy and practice
the demonstration of all skills out of the PADI Open Water
Diver Course as you did during your Divemaster Training
Course.
Remember that your demo should be slow, exaggerating and
easy looking.
If
you arrive a couple of days in advanced feel free to join
one of our instructors during teaching, or join our IDC
prep. Program, starting two days before the IDC.
Going through rescue skills, dive master theory and the
skill demonstration in the pool is a good fresh up and creates
a more relaxed atmosphere.

We will help you with your independent study section of
your candidate workbook, this will save you some time during
the IDC.
AND: You’ll get to know the staff and other participants
already.
In some
dive centers the IDC prep. Course is free of charge, please
check the price lists of the dive centers you are interessted
in.
